TeacherMade Activities Made with AI banner

With the launch of the Content Assistant, you can now use our AI to make content in TeacherMade, just like we’ve been doing for weeks!! There are now two ways to do it: Generate content or import/paste in any content.

Generating content will create brand new materials that are delivered in TeacherMade format. The correct answers are already present; once reviewed, the content is ready to assign to your students with no additional preparation.

Importing/pasting in content has a wide variety of uses. You can generate content on ChatGPT, Magic School, or some other site. But when you use those sites, all you get is text. You still have to format it and deliver it to your students. When you take that generated text and paste it into TeacherMade’s Content Assistant: Import/Paste screen, it will be automatically turned into an interactive, autograded file ready for your classes.

But here’s the bonus: you can also paste in text from anywhere! Do you already have quizzes and practice sheets in Google Docs? Copy the text and paste it in. The Content Assistant will turn it into a TeacherMade for you! Talk about saving time!!

In this week’s TeacherMade Tip of the Week video, we’re highlighting a powerful feature that makes aligning your activities with state standards quick and easy: tagging standards. Whether you’re working on a new activity or editing an existing one, you can easily tag each question with relevant state standards. Just click on any question, choose “Edit Item Standards,” search for your state, subject, and grade level, then select the standard you want. TeacherMade even remembers your most recently used standards, allowing for quick selection. Plus, you can apply a standard to all questions in an assignment in just a few clicks through the settings menu. It’s a time-saving way to ensure your lessons meet educational requirements, all with the simplicity that TeacherMade brings.

TeacherMade Activities Made with AI banner

With the launch of the Content Assistant, you can now use our AI to make content in TeacherMade, just like we’ve been doing for weeks!! There are now two ways to do it: Generate content or paste in content.

Generating content will create brand new materials that are delivered in TeacherMade format. The correct answers are already present; once reviewed, the content is ready to assign to your students with no additional preparation.

Pasting in content has a wide variety of uses. You can generate content on ChatGPT, Magic School, or some other site. But when you do that, all you get is text. You still have to format it and deliver it to your students. When you paste the text into TeacherMade’s Content Assistant: Import screen, it will be automatically turned into an interactive, autograded file ready for your classes.

But here’s the bonus: you can also paste in text from anywhere! Do you already have quizzes and practice sheets in Google Docs? Copy the text and paste it in. The Content Assistant will turn it into a TeacherMade for you! Talk about saving time!!

  2. Input any directions that you have. We said we wanted a story for 4th graders with a slight Halloween focus to evaluate TEKS 4.6G, evaluating details to determine key ideas. We also said that we wanted multiple choice and true/false questions to assess students.
  3. The cool thing about Kids Story Creator is that it breaks your story into different slides. In this case, it even put a question on each slide. This makes it very easy to import into TeacherMade’s Prompt Assistant! Kids Story Creator will also give you images if you’d like.
  4. Open a New Blank Activity in Slide View in TeacherMade.
  5. If you have a title slide, use Teacher Text and create insert your directions and an image if you have one.
  6. Click the green PromptAssistant button to open. Choose input content. Copy the portion of your story that you’d like on the next slide and click Go! Note: if you have any questions on the slide, make sure your answer key is included.
  7. Repeat step #6 until you have all of your story slides created.
  8. Do any formatting you’d like. Add a background color and any images you’d like to include. Your activity is ready to assign to your students!

When you get to the box for the prompt, you’ll want to tell Prompt Assistant what standard you’re working on. Since we were working on dramatic conventions, we chose genre “drama” and then in the prompt box we told it to create a passage to meet the following standard that we provided.
  5. A passage will be generated for you. You should read through it and see if you like it. If you don’t, you can have it regenerate until you have something you like. Then click “Next.”
  6. Now we will create the questions. In the prompt box, if there is a certain part of the standard to focus on, include that here. We told it to make sure to analyze dramatic conventions. Select the number of each question type you would like to include and click “Regenerate Questions.”
  7. From here you can go through and decide which questions you’d like to use in your assignment. The ones you don’t want, simply uncheck the box. Then click “Add Questions.”

TeacherMade's Weekly News letter The AI Prep AI Prep Rally

Sad greetings from Asheville, NC. Since the region is in the news for the devastation from Hurricane Helene, I thought I’d give you a firsthand account. My husband and I go to Asheville in the summers to escape the worst of the Florida heat and hurricanes. We’ve been going to “God’s country” for at least 15 years.

We did escape the heat this summer, but not the disaster of hurricanes. I can say that the devastation is complete in a region that has never, ever experienced such an event. We get the rains up there– I believe the Southern Appalachians are technically a temperate rainforest, but 12 inches in 48 hours will overwhelm anything!! The surface area of a mountain is huge; the rains fall fast and the water goes downhill. The tiniest of creeks and streams swell as they feed the region’s ancient rivers. The French Broad River, one of the oldest in the world and around which Asheville was built, grew to 20 times its depth and overflowed into everything. So did the Swannanoa River, the Nolichucky north of town that took out I-26, and the Pigeon out west of Asheville that took out  I-40.

Biltmore Village underwater from Hurricane Helene

It will be at least a week before power and cell services are restored. Municipal water is another issue entirely. Could be a month– or more as the water treatment plant and infrastructure must be repaired and rebuilt. The only bit of grace the mountains are receiving is cooler temperatures. Anyone who’s ever experienced a hurricane will tell you the days after are the insult of the injurious storm– a meteorological middle finger as it leaves your region. Now you must survive high heat and humidity with no power.

Which brings me to SC and GA. We were able to escape back home to Fernandina Beach, Florida. As we cautiously made our way off the mountains down into SC late Friday afternoon when the roadway was cleared of fallen trees, the temperature soared. It went from the high 60s to the middle 80s in Greenville, SC under cloudy skies. and it only got warmer as we traveled downstate. It wasn’t until we were 72 miles into SC that we finally saw businesses with electricity. In GA and FL where thousands were still without power, it was 80 degrees at 10 pm, well after sunset. Though Asheville is making the news, ALL of the communities in the path of Hurricane Helene are hurting. Surely this will be the costliest weather-related disaster in US history.

What can you do? Besides donations and prayers, you can reduce your own carbon footprint and that of your school. It sounds like I’m preaching, but there is literally nothing else to be done. Hurricane Helene was a weak tropical system off the Yucatan peninsula. In 48 hours it became a Category 4 hurricane when it reached 85 degree waters in the Gulf of Mexico. The theory is that the oceans absorb much of the heat in the atmosphere trapped by the particles from the burning of fossil fuels. Therefore the storms aren’t going away until the oceans cool down. Less particulates in the atmosphere = cooler ocean temperatures = fewer devastating storms.

As a TeacherMader, thank you for using less paper– using less resources and/or “greener” resources is the key to a safer future for everyone. Online learning is not yet green but its on its way. Amazon Web Services is using renewable energy for many of its servers, but it can be doing more. (It’s where TeacherMade is hosted.) Microsoft and Google are also actively moving to renewables. Do what you can where you can; our world will be grateful for the help. — Laura Bresko, CEO

Happy Fall!! It’s hard to believe it was just two autumns ago when OpenAI made ChatGPT available to the public. And how usage has grown in that short time! The Walton Foundation commissioned Impact Research to do a survey of usage in education in February 2023 and again in April 2024. Check out this slide presentation to see how fast usage has grown among teachers, students, and parents. Spoiler alert: teachers are using AI the most!!

Over the last four issues of our AI Prep Rally newsletter, we’ve demonstrated how to use TeacherMade’s Prompt Assistant to paste in content. We used wrapper sites like Magic School and generated materials via custom GPTs. On this first Fall weekend, we cut out the “middle men” and go straight to the LLM sources, like Chat GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot.

Prompting LLMs directly is arguably the best bang for your buck!! You can get into a conversation with the AI, customize your content to specifically fit your needs, and possibly do it all for free. (Although… I pay for a ChatGPT subscription and it’s the smartest $20 I spend each month.) If you’re a control freak like me, then LLM prompting is the AI route you want to take!

For Best Results: Use LLMs Directly

Large Language Models (LLMs) are the technical category into which ChatGPT, CoPilot, Claude, and Gemini fall.

This week, we’ve created 6 new TeacherMade activities by prompting the different LLMs directly. It’s fun, frustrating, and amazing when you first do it. But over time, you develop the skill known as AI prompting. We’ve been prompting for at least 18 months so we thought we’d lead the way for you. Enjoy!

How to Get Started with TeacherMade

Why Should I Add a Second Email Address to My Account??

At the start of every semester, our Support Team gets too many emails that start with “I’ve changed schools…” or “I’ve changed my name…” or “I can’t remember…” They’re emails from busy teachers who don’t have another way into their TeacherMade account because their school email address has changed.

To avoid wasting the time to email the Support Team and wait for a response, even though we’re really quick, take a moment to ADD A SECOND EMAIL to your TeacherMade account. You never know when that will come in handy!

Cut Support Time with Help Assistant  TeacherMade's AI Prep Rally cheerleader

TeacherMade’s new Help Assistant is pretty smart– and fast!! It will help you learn a tool, explain a feature, and answer just about every TeacherMade-related question you can throw at it, especially if you write in full sentences. 😉
